It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these; I’m not used to the idea of having to reintroduce myself.   I got so entrenched at Left Field Bluffs that I’ve forgotten what it’s like to actually need to describe myself to a new audience.  Heck, I had been there since 2006 as the primary writer – I founded the damn place.  I’ve been writing at Fantasy College Blitz since 2007 as the SEC correspondent; more or less everyone knows that at this point.  The most recent gig I picked up – a once-a-week thing at SEC Rivals – came as a result of FCB.  Heck, even when I was writing for Rotojunkie two years ago, the staff and the readers had known who I was for years prior, so it’s not like I needed to stand on a mountain and yell about who I am.

When I first started LFB I wrote nearly entirely about baseball; heck, the reason Left Field Bluffs was named that was in memory / honor of the piece of grass that served (well, serves) as the left field stands at AutoZone Park, where the Memphis Redbirds play.  That went through a couple of iterations; at first I was trying to focus on baseball in general.  Once I realized that a) I didn’t have the patience for that, b) I didn’t have the time for that, and c) I was writing for myself, I scrapped that idea.  Iteration two – just write about something I care about.  It’s way easier to focus on one team than thirty, and hell, I had followed the Washington Nationals since they were still the Expos, so why not – I’ll just worry about them.  Still, it’s damn hard to write consistently about the Washington Nationals when they’re busy shooting themselves in the foot.  So much for that idea; what else do I care about?  Well, I care about college football.  A lot.

Well, shit – might as well write about college football.  I ended up writing more and more about college football, even bringing on James and Russ to help with providing content.  We had this brilliant idea back in ’08 to apportion coverage by conference; fittingly, I got the SEC and the god-awful ACC.  It wasn’t a bad idea in theory, but as we figured out somewhere into Week 6, writing about the conference we didn’t really care about turned into a pain in the ass (really, I should’ve known that already).  James, bless his heart, was professional about it, but this was also the year of every single ACC team sucking pretty hardcore – this had the end result of turning every single post I wrote about the ACC into a profanity-riddled diatribe over how much the conference sucks.  (I feel justified in that, since Maryland actually made it to a bowl game last year.)   Thank god we abandoned that.

So why’d we move?  As odd as it sounds, James started bitching about the margins and we wanted to record podcasts.  Of course, because the timing for this got all shot to hell, all the podcasts we’ve recorded were for the preseason except maybe one (we’ll put those online as an example of how not to record) and we haven’t recorded anything since then.  So, we completely changed domains, we both picked up Audacity, and we’re doing that now.  Maybe we’ll pull a Simmons and only record podcasts except for one half-assed post every two weeks.  Now if we only had the readership, that’d be something.  I guess that’s my way of telling you to tell your friends if you like the content.
